Medicinal plants can be used when unable to use modern medicine or having to resort to pills. There are several kinds of medicinial plants that can be used to treat pain. 


Alfalfa is incredibly rich in minerals and health promoting nutrients. Its roots can grow 20-30 feet deep and is considered father of all plants.It can be to treat kidney pain. Alfalfa can be eat without needing to be cooked.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a green plant that has large fleshy green leaves with prickly edges.The aloe plant is well liked for its medicinal properties as well as being used as a decorative houseplant.

The leaves of the aloe plant is filled with a clear sap that oozes out of broken leaves. By rubbing the sap on an affected area you can use it to treat burns. If ingested it can be used to help treat joint pain. Aloe Vera helps speed up the process of cell growth due to its strong anti-inflammatory characteristics.


Ashwagndha also called Ingian ginseng is a medicinal plant used has a sedative and a home remedy for rheumatism in India.By making a decoction out of it it can be used to treat toothaches. The juices mixed with honey and put onto the eyes is said to strengthen sight. 

Balm Of Gilead Buds

The sticky resin from the balm of gilead buds buds contain salicin which your body converts to aspirin. 

Bay Leaves

Oil of bay, the fixed oil expressed from the berries, is used to treat arthritic aches and pains, lower back pain, earaches, and sore muscles and sprains. Bay leaves are the source of an essential oil with the same analgesic and warming properties. Bay laurel contains parthenolides, the same chemical in feverfew that is thought to prevent migraine headaches.


Boswellia is a herb used for treating joint pain. The active component boswellic acid inhibits 5-lipoxygenase that causes inflammation.It reduces rain and swelling in muscles and joints. Supplements containing boswellic acids combined with glucosamine are often used to relieve the joint pain and reduce inflammation in all types of arthritis . Boswellia or Indian frankincense is one of the Ayurvedic gum resins which are referred to collectively as guggals. The gum resin extract has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. 

California Poppy

The California poppy is an effective anxiety reliever and is safe to use on agitated children. Brewing a poppy tea is useful for quick relief of nervousness and tension while a stronger decoction will offer pain relief.


Feverfew is a well knwon and well documented for its medicinal benefits. It is an anti inflammatory as well as acts as a natural serotonin inhibitor. It can help reduce swlling and brusing. Feverfew is most effective when taken daily and can help reduce pain when no advil is on hand.


Ginger is a well known culinary herb that is effective in joint pain. It contains anti inflammatory agents called gingerols.The gingerols block the productions of enzymes like COX-1 and COX-2 The use of ginger can reduce the need for pain medication in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.


Turmeric is another safe herb with use as a food in India for centuries. Turmeric has very potent anti-inflammatory properties, similar to ginger. I would highly recommend it to people with joint aches and pains. It is sometimes used in combination with ginger.

Sweet Violet

Sweet Violet is native to Europe and Asia but is cultivated around the world. When brewed into a syrup it is effective as a treatment for colds,flus,coughs and sore throats.When brewed into a tea it is effective for reliving headaches and muscle and body pain.
