Rubbing alcohol is a type of denatured alcohol that has been rendered unfit for human consumption by the additives that give it a bitter taste or by making it toxic. Denaturing prevents people from consuming it and allows the alcohol to be used for other purposes. Denatured alcohol can cause death if consumed. |
Rubbing alcohol is a liquid prepared and used primarily for topical applications like cleaning wounds or to soothe, cool, or warm the skin. It is prepared from a special denatured alcohol solution and contains approximately 70 percent by volume of pure, concentrated ethanol (ethyl alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol).
