It is less commonly known. In the English-speaking Caribbean such as Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, Grenada and in Trinidad and Tobago, the term "cutlass" is used for these agricultural tools. 22 Panga Machete In a variety of tropical and subtropical countries the machete is often times used to cut through rain forest undergrowth and for agricultural purposes like cutting sugar cane. In Latin America a common use is for such household tasks as cutting large foodstuffs into pieces It is also common to see people using machetes for other jobs such as splitting open coconuts, yard work, and clearing brush. Throughout Africa, the machete is known by the name panga. The blade widens and curves up toward its tip. It's used to cut down small trees and to harvest crops. The kopis was an ancient Greek tool/weapon comparable to the machete. The makhaira was also similar, but was intended primarily to be a weapon rather than a tool.he Kopis was a one-handed, single-edged sword about 3 feet in length, with the blade curving forward and widening near the tip. The blade has a reinforced spine to give it greater strength and durability, and the hilt's wrap-around grip made the sword less likely to slip out of the user's hand Nepalese Kukri Machete The kukri is a Nepalese curved blade used for many purposes similar to the machete. The kukri is an amazing multi-tasker. The big heavy end provides chopping force close to that of the hatchet, and the sharp inner curve gives great control for finer tasks. The kukri has a heavy, forward-curved blade with a single cutting edge and a circular notch near the handle. It typically has a length of 16-18 inches (40-45 cm) and weighs 1 to 2 lbs
