The talk of gun control is making the lawmakers looking at a bit of a preemptive strike.A couple of Tennessee legislators have filed bills that try to block new federal gun laws before they even exist.
A separate sentence of the proposed law says "no personnel or property of this state or any political subdivision" of this state can be used for such purposes unless federal funding is provided to cover the costs.
"I hate to see the Democrats and the gun grabbers in Washington use this hideous crime to further their gun confiscation program. That's what they want to do - take our guns," Nicely said.
I don't know why we would want to restrict that without seeing the law. Obviously, I think most sensible people really think we should crack down to make sure mentally ill people can't get access to firearms," said State Rep. Mike Stewart, D-Nashville.
